Joan was born about 1404 in Westminster, Middlesex, England, the daughter of John Beaufort and Margaret de Holland.

She died on 15 JUL 1445 in Dunbar castle, Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland.

She had two marriages/partners. Her first husband was James I Stewart, who she married on 13 FEB 1423. The place has not been found. Their eight known children were Margaret (1424-1445), Isabelle (1426-<1499), Mary (<1428-1465), Joan (c1428->1486), James II (1430-1460), Alexander (1430-1430), Annabella (c1432-1509) and Eleanor (1433-1480).

Her second husband was James Stewart, who she married on BEF 21 SEP 1439 in St. Andrews, Fifeshire, Scotland. Their three known children were John (c1440-1512), James II (c1442-1499) and Andrew (<1445-1501).
