John was born on 24 JUN 1340 in St. Bavon's Abbey, the son of Edward III Plantagenêt and Philippe de Hainault.

He died on 03 FEB 1399 in Leicester castle, Leicester, Leicestershire, England .

He had four marriages/partners. His first wife was Blanche Plantagenêt, who he married on 19 MAY 1359 in Queen's Chapel, Reading. Their seven known children were Philippe (1360-<1438), John (c1362-?), Elizabeth (1363-1425), Edward (c1365-?), John (<1366-?), Henry IV (<1367-1413) and Isabel (c1368-?).

His second partner was Marie de Saint-Hilaire, but they were never married. Their only known child was Blanche (c1359-1388/89).

His third wife was Constanza de Castilla, who he married on 21 SEP 1371 in Roquefort-sur-Mer. Their two known children were Catherine (<1373-1418) and John (1374-?).

His fourth partner was Katherine de Roët, but they were never married. Their four known children were John (1373-1410), Henry (c1375-1447), Thomas (1377-1426) and Joan (c1379-1440).
