Seleucus was the son of Antiochus II Theos and Berenice Syra. The date and place of his birth have not been found.

After the death of his father, Antiochus, he was proclaimed king by his mother, Laodice in Ephesos, while her partisans at Antioch murdered Berenice and her son. When Ptolemy died in 246 BC, Antiochus took Laodice back but died immediately thereafter (she is said to have poisoned him).
