His wife was Laodice I. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Laodice (?-?), Antiochus III (0242BC-0187BC) and Seleucus III Ceraunus (c0243BC-0223BC).

After the death of his father, Antiochus, he was proclaimed king by his mother, Laodice in Ephesos, while her partisans at Antioch murdered Berenice and her son. When Ptolemy died in 246 BC, Antiochus took Laodice back but died immediately thereafter (she is said to have poisoned him).
