Philip was born about 1325 in Sain Pyr, Matharn, Monmouthshire, Cymru, the son of Llewellyn ap Ivor and Angharad verch Morgan.
He died in 1389 in Monmouthshire, Cymru.
His wife was Nest verch Gwilym Sais. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were Gwenllian verch Philip (1388-1411) and Gwilym ap Philip (c1382-?).
