Henry was born about 1345, the son of William Sinclair and Isabel Strathearn. The place is not known.

He died about 1404 in Orkney Islands, Orkney, Scotland.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Florentia av Sverige. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. They had no known children.

Note 1

He is best known today because of a modern legend that he took part in explorations of Greenland and North America almost 100 years before Christopher Columbus.

Note 2

No certain record exists but it is likely that the Sinclairs came from Saint-Clair-sur-Epte in Normandy. Guillaume de Sainte-Claire accompanied Saint Margaret of Scotland, daughter of Edward the Exile to Scotland in 1068, where she eventually married Malcolm III of Scotland. In return for his efforts, the king supposedly granted Sinclair the barony of Roslin "in free heritage".
