Gerhard was born in 1254 in Holstein, the son of Gerhard I von Holstein-Itzehoe and Elisabeth von Mecklenburg.
He died on 28 OCT 1312 in Holstein.
He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Ingeborg Valdemarsdotter Folkungaätten, who he married in ABT 1275. The place has not been found. Their four known children were Katharina (c1276-c1300), Gerhard IV (c1277-c1323), Waldemar (c1279-1308) and Elisabeth (c1282-1318/19).
His second wife was Agnes von Brandenburg, who he married in 1293. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Johann III (c1297-1359).
