Richard was born in 1336 in Kinderton cum Hulme, Northwich, Cheshire, England, the son of sir Hugh de Venables and Katherine de Haughton.
He died in 1403 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.
His wife was Joan Fitton. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were Margaret (c1375-?), William (c1376-c1402), John (c1380-?), Oliver Whitley (c1380-?) and Emma (c1370-?).
