Joan was born in 1363 in Baglan, Glamorganshire, Cymru, the daughter of Ieuan ap Lleision and Efa verch Llewellyn.
Her husband was Ieuen ap Jenkin Kemeys. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their six known children were Morgan ap Ieuan (c1394-1447), Gwilym ap Ieuan (c1399-1458), John (c1400-c1430), Dafydd ap Ieuan (c1398-1483), Hywel ap Ieuan (c1400-?) and Harry (c1402-1447).
