Alexander was born about 1407 in Home, Berwickshire, Scotland, the son of sir Alexander Home and Janet Hay.

He died before APR 1491 in Dunglas, Berwickshire, Scotland.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Marion Lauder, who he married in BEF 1424. The place has not been found. Their four known children were Katherine (c1428-?), Alexander (c1426-c1456), Helen (<1425->1513) and Janet (?-?).

His second wife was Margaret Montgomery, who he married on BEF 14 JUL 1467. The place has not been found. They had no known children.
