Vlad was the son of Vlad II Basarab and Călțuna. The date and place of his birth have not been found.

He died in NOV 1495. The place is not known.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Rada Samaranda. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Radu IV (c1467-1508), Mircea (?->1497), Vlad (?-1488) and Caplea (?-?).

His second wife was Maria Palaiologina, who he married in BEF 1487. The place has not been found. They had no known children.
