Friedrich was born on 28 JUL 1676 in Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha, the son of Friedrich I von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg and Magdalena Sibylla von Sachsen-Weißenfels.

He died on 23 MAR 1732 in Altenburg.

His wife was Magdalena Augusta von Anhalt-Zerbst, who he married on 17 JUN 1696. The place has not been found.
