Morgan was born in 1413 in Langstone, Llebenydd, Monmouthshire, Galles, the son of Jenkyn ap Philip and Cecily Welsh.

He died in 1472 in Monmouthshire, Galles.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Elizabeth Vaughan. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were Cecily verch Morgan (1439-?), Jenet verch Morgan (c1447-?), Margred I verch Morgan (c1450-?), sir Thomas (c1453-c1495) and John ap Morgan (c1455-?).

His second wife was Magred verch Daffyd Mathew. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Elizabeth (c1451-?), Anne verch Morgan (c1456-c1494) and Sibyl verch Morgan (c1462-?).
