His wife was Hodierne de Gometz-la-Ferté, who he married in ABT 1040. The place has not been found. Their six known children were Milon I (c1040-c1118), Alix (c1040-1097), Mélisente (c1042-?), Guy II (c1055-1108), Isabelle (1050-?) and Gisèle (c0956-?).

Il est probablement fils de Thibaud File Etoupe, mais certains ouvrages le donnent comme fils d'un Milon. Ce Thibaud de Montmorency serait alors son grand-père ce qui ne semble pas chronologiquement extraordinaire.
