He died about 1378 in Westhall, Murroes, Angusshire, Scotland.
His wife was Jeanne de Coucy, who he married in 1351. The place has not been found. Their four known children were Jeanne (1351-c1380), Jean II (1359-1415), Robert VIII (c1370-1408) and Marie (?-?).
