Thomas was born about 1315 in Holderness, East Riding, Yorkshire, England, the son of sir John de Sutton and Constance Sampson.
He died after 1356 in Bransholme castle, Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire, England.
His wife was Agnes de Hotham. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were Constance (c1356-1401), John (c1360-<1381), Margery (c1365-1391), Agnes (c1366-1436) and Maud (c1367-1398).
