Johann was the son of Heinrich II von Reifferscheidt and Richarde van Dijck. The date and place of his birth have not been found.

He died on 26 OCT 1415 in bataille d'Azincourt, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France .

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Jutta van Culemborg. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Margareta (?->1425), Jutta (?-c1485), Johann VI (c1415-1475) and Mechtild (c1375->1451).

His second wife was Richardis von Boland, who he married in BEF 1377. The place has not been found. Their three known children were Reinhard (<1429-?), Mechtild (c1400->1461) and Wilhelm (<1407->1410).
