Gédyminas was born about 1275, the son of Butvydas of Lithuania but his mother is unknown. The place is not known.

He died in 1341 in Raudoné, Lithuania.

He had three marriages/partners. His first wife was Wida. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were Manvydas (c1288-c1341) and Narimantas (c1277-1348).

His second wife was Olga Vsevolodovna Smolenskaya. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their seven known children were Kęstutis (c1297-<1382), Algirdas (c1296-1377), Liubartas (?-1384/85), Maria (1305-1348), Dannila (<1302-1364), Eufemia (c1316-1342) and Aigusta (c1320-1345).

His third wife was Jaunė of Polatsk. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Karijotas (?-<1358), Jaunutis (?-1366) and Aldona Ona (1309-1339).
