Johann was born about 1415 in Altwied, Neuwied, Rheinland-Pfalz, the son of Gerlach I von Isenburg-Wied and Agnes von Isenburg-Büdingen.

He died before 1454. The place is not known.

He had three marriages/partners. His first wife was Agnes von Westerburg, who he married in 1400. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Anastasia (1403->1439).

His second wife was Kunigunde von Westerburg, who he married in ABT 1415. The place has not been found. They had no known children.

His third wife was Kunigunde von Saffenberg, who he married on BEF 2 FEB 1428. The place has not been found. They had no known children.
