Richard was born about 1393 in Smallbridge, Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England, the son of sir Richard de Waldegrave and Jane Mountchesney.

He died about 1460. The place is not known.

His wife was Joan de Doreward. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were Richard (c1420-1439), Agnes (c1422-?), sir Thomas (c1425-?), Anne (c1429-1453) and Jacon (?-?).
