Margaret was born about 1397 in Aldwark (Alderwarke), North Riding, Yorkshire, England, the daughter of sir Thomas Clarell and Maud Montgomery.

She died on 23 APR 1435 in Gawthorpe Hall, Harewood, Yorkshire, England.

She had three marriages/partners. Her first husband was sir John FitzWilliam. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were sir John (c1417-?), sir William (1416/17-1474) and Eleanor (?->1475).

Her second husband was Robert II de Waterton, who she married in BEF 1422. The place has not been found. They had no known children.

Her third husband was sir William III Gascoigne, who she married in ABT 1456. The place has not been found. Their seven known children were Ralph (c1340-?), Robert (c1426-?), John (c1428-?), Joan (c1428-1462), Anne (c1434->1488), sir William III (c1439-c1463) and Margaret (c1430-<1514).
