Janet was born about 1490 in Creich, Fifeshire, Scotland, the daughter of David Bethune and Janet Duddingston.

She died about 1522 in Kinneil, Borrowstounness, West Lothian, Scotland.

She had two marriages/partners. Her first husband was James Hamilton. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was James (c1516-1575).

Her second husband was sir Robert Livingston. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. They had no known children.
