Alison was born about 1507 in Aikenhead, Perthshire, Scotland, the daughter of William Reid but her mother is unknown.
Her husband was sir Edward Bruce. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their six known children were Robert (c1532-?), Margaret (c1540-?), Elizabeth (c1542-?), sir George (c1545-1625), Edward (1548-1611) and William (c1552-?).
