Anselm was the son of Heinrich von Promnitz and Margarethe von Unruh. The date and place of his birth have not been found.
His wife was Hedwig Ursule von Nostitz. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Seyfried Anselm (1534-1597).
