Richard was born about 1323 in Herefordshire, England, the son of Reginald de Hampden and Nichola de Grenville.
His wife was Avice Upton. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Isabel (1349-c1410), Richard (1347-?) and Thomas (c1337-1386).
