His wife was Thyra Amalia Caroline Charlotte Anna af Danmark. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their six known children were Marie Louise Victoria Caroline Amalie Alexandra Augusta Friederike (1879-1948), George William (1880-1912), Alexandra (1882-1963), Olga (1884-1958), Christian (1885-1901) and Ernest Augustus of Brunswick (1887-1953).
