Sur l'instigation de son cousin Isaac Ange, le peuple de Constantinople se rebella et le tua de la façon la plus atroce qui soit : on lui coupa une main, on l’attacha sur le dos d’un chameau malade et on l’exhiba dans Constantinople pendant plusieurs jours sans eau ni nourriture.
