DÉZIEL, Claire Nadia (nee Chauvin) Passed away peacefully on Thursday October 25, 2007 at the age of 93. She is survived by her children Suzanne and husband Peter Knowlton (Ottawa), John Déziel (Belle River), Christopher Déziel (Santa Cruz, California), Michele Déziel (Boston) and Denise Déziel (Windsor). She was the last surviving of the 10 children of Donus and Nadia Chauvin and is joining her husband Judge (and Colonel of the Essex Scottish) Lawrence A. Déziel, OBE and her daughter Louise. Claire was fortunate to have eight grandchildren: Nicole and Bill Knowlton, Aimee and Sarah Déziel, Jamie Russell, Christian, Joel and Claire Poisson, and four great-grandchildren. A life-long resident of Windsor, Claire attended St. Mary's Academy and Normal School in London, Ont. She enjoyed a teaching career with both the Windsor Catholic School Board and St. Clair College, where she taught English as a Second Language. She had many interests in her life, including volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Windsor Art Gallery. She also loved to curl, bowl and play bridge. The family is most grateful to her dear friend Annette Wilson, her caregiver Marie McKenzie, the staff of the Renal Dialysis Unit of Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital and the staff of the seventh floor for their caring support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to the Renal Dialysis Unit of Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital or the Kidney Foundation. Family and friends will gather at the Janisse Bros-Marcotte Funeral Home 1139 Ouellette Ave. 519-253-5225 on Friday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers at 4p.m. On Saturday, October 27th, there will be further visitation at St. Anne's Catholic Church - Walkerville from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate the life of Claire. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. A tree will be planted in memory of Claire Déziel in the Janisse-Marcotte Heritage Forest. A dedication service will be held on September, 28th 2008.
