Guillaume was born about 1607 in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Barrière, Tonnay-Boutonne, Saint-Jean-d'Angély, Charente-Maritime, Poitou-Charentes, France , the son of Pierre Pépin dit Lafond and Francoise Prieur.

He died on 12 AUG 1697 in Châteauguay, Roussillon, Montérégie QC .

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Jeanne Méchin, who he married on 12 AUG 1645 in Trois-Rivières, Trois-Rivières, Mauricie QC . Their thirteen known children were Jacques (1646-1715), Jean-Baptiste (1647-1724), Marie (1649->1716), Guillaume (1651->1667), Pierre (1652-1722), Étienne (1654->1667), Jeanne-Marie (1656-1716), Madeleine (1657-1722), Élisabeth-Isabelle-Marie (1659-1697), Louis (1660-1660), Joseph (1660-1660), Marie-Ursule (1662-1740) and Marguerite-Marie (1662-1734).

His second wife was Marie-Renée Hervé. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Jean-Baptiste (c1647-1723/24).

Note 1

Guillaume received his surname from King Louis 13th - title means " cutting through the mountain" conferred on him because of his great vigor. Guillaume was given a large land grant by King Louis. The story that I heard goes that when they saw the upper Mississippi area they thought that it was so beautiful that they wrote to the King calling it the eight wonder of the world.

He became Syndic of Trois-Rivières and later Judge of the Seigneurie of Champlain
