Jean was born on 30 NOV 1340 in château du Bois de Vincennes, Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France, France, the son of Jean II de Valois and Bonne de Luxembourg.

He died on 15 JUN 1416 in château de Nesles.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Jeanne II d'Auvergne, who he married in 1390. The place has not been found. They had no known children.

His second wife was Jeanne d'Armagnac, who he married in 1360. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Bonne (1362-1435).
