Thomas was born in 1359 in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, the son of sir Thomas III de Grey and Margaret Pressene.
He died in 1399 in Venice, Italy.
His wife was Joan de Mowbray. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were Matilda (1382-1451), sir Thomas (1384-1415), sir John KG (>1384-1421), William (c1388-c1435) and Henry (c1390-c1464).
