He died in 1414 in Monington, Nevern, Pembrokeshire.
His wife was Margred de Hanmer. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their eight known children were Jonet verch Owain (c1374-?), Gruffudd ab Owain (c1375-c1412), Alys ferch Owain (1378-?), Maredudd ab Owain (?-?), Thomas ap Owain (?-?), John ap Owain (?-?), Margaret verch Owain (c1380-?) and Catrin verch Owain (c1380-?).
