Breide was born in 1382 in Schleswig (Schlesvig), Schleswig-Holstein, the son of Cai Rantzau but his mother is unknown.
He died about 1461. The place is not known.
His wife was Drude Rathlou. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their nine known children were Volmer (c1425->1519), Povl (c1427-<1482), Peter (<1430-1510), Henrik (c1437-1497), Herman (?-c1450), Markvard (c1435->1459), Bertold (1437-1489), Cai (?->1459) and Mette (?-1489).
