He died on 22 OCT 1956 in Windsor, Essex Co, Ontario, Canada .
His wife was Alphonsine Jacques, who he married on 10 JAN 1911. The place has not been found. Their five known children were Germaine de Staël (private), Wilfrid Laurier (private), Gérard Berchmans (private), Laurette Marie (private) and Raymond Jacques (private).

François-Xavier Chauvin fut un de nos patriotes du sud-ouest ontarien et mieux connu comme Effexe Chauvin. Il était inspecteur d'écoles, écrivain-journaliste, historien, stratégème libéral, F.X. était un orateur recherché par toutes les bonnes causes. A sa mort, le 2 oct. 1956 , le " Windsor Star " écrivit ceci à son sujet: " Excellent in English, he was superb in French "
