Gilbert was born on 02 SEP 1243 in Christchurch, Hampshire, England, the son of unknown parents.

He died on 07 DEC 1295 in Monmouth Castle.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Alice de Lusignan, who he married in 1253. The place has not been found. Their two known children were Isabel (1263-1333) and Johanna (c1264-c1323).

His second wife was Jeanne d'Acre, who he married on 30 APR 1290 in Westminster Abbey, Westminster, Middlesex, England . Their three known children were Margaret (1293-1342), Elizabeth (1295-1360) and Eleanor (1292-1337).
