Church Farm North East Coast of Detroit River: This farm was patented from the French Government to Charles Chêne on July 14, 1734. The farm became the residence of the Bérnard family and ownership of it passed to the son, Hippolyte Bérnard, who sold it to François-de-Paul Malcher in 1802. Under the American regime this farm was called Private Claim No. 16. François-de-Paul Malcher deeded the farm on April 8, 1808 to five trustees representing the Catholic Church on the Northeast coast of Detroit. From that time on the farm belonged to the Church and was called the "Church Farm".
