Notes

Note 1

The Brennan clan can be traced back to Cearbhall (pronounced ``Carroll''), King of Ossory, during the 800s in what is today County Kilkenny. In 873, after a few victorious battles and various political manoeuvres, Cearbhall became king of the Vikings in Ireland and took a Viking wife, along with his Irish one. He was the father of Braonan, the original Brennan, whom he made the king of Idough, which today makes up part of Kilkenny.
