The stop in Redding was just for a rest. We should have just gone on the the next stop and spend an extra day but I wasn't to know the particulars of this place beforehand. We arrived in good time from Winnemucca and left the next morning for Klamath on our Epic Journey West.
The following is in the form of a complaint so, if you're not in the mood or just uninterested, move on.
Apparently Best Western no longer acknowledges this motel. With good reason, I assure you. Granted, the day was blistering and most unpleasant. I went into the office to check in and found it difficult to communicate with the south asian at the desk. It was apparently a family-run business. The room turned out to be a hot cesspit, with shag carpeting (I swear it was) reeking of dog urine with a hint of feces. Celeste freaked out, as did we. I went to the office to demand another room and the man there said, in effect, to forget it – that was the room for pets. I explained that I had a cat and the place was filthy and he said tough luck. We stayed the night and left very early. Perhaps my complaint to Best Western had some good effect.
