I had no idea what to expect here when we arrived from Casper and was surprised by a quite pleasant place. (The town, not the motel) We had a large main floor room that was good for Celeste. It was so hot, the AC couldn't keep up. Celeste was quite miserable with all the strangeness. We had driven the previous day from Winnemucca with a broken air conditioner and it was very uncomfortable. It was difficult to get Celeste calmed enough to drink enough water.
We loaded the van early in the morning to get away before the heat started up. The van stalled and wouldn't restartin a driveway between the motel and an Arby's, which was closed. Tom was driving and got out to meet the AAA person who stopped in fron to give us a jump-start. I got out the passenger side, making certain Celeste was still in the van. The van was restarted and we were ready to go when I automatically checked Celeste. I couldn't see her. It was then I noticed Tom had his window open.
<visualize red anger.>
The motel is on a rise with a wide field below and to the North, before the highway. To the East is a disused Arby's and below and to the North of that is a disused gas station. We traipesed that field for a couple hours, asking people if they had seen a cat. There was a family in an RV at the disused service station who went looking as well. I walked aroud Arby's several times always calling her name. After the umpteenth time around, a security guard (for Arby's?) walked around and stopped me. I asked him if he'd seen a Siamese around and he said he had just passed one. I circled the building a bit quicker and found Celeste, quite irritated, keeping ahead of me.
Celeste had almost become a short-term citizen of Utah as well as coyote-food. I was so happy and Tom lived to see another day. We drove on in the heat of the afternoon to our next overnight in Winnemucca NV on our Epic Journey West.
